About Shoonya
Shoonya is the retail trading platform of Finvasia Securities Pvt Ltd, a fintech group incorporated in Canada in 2009 that has operated in the Indian broking market since 2013. It is registered with SEBI and is a depository participant with CDSL, and is a member of NSE, BSE, MCX and NCDEX across equity, F&O, currency and commodity segments.
Shoonya ran on true zero brokerage across every segment until December 2024, when SEBI's ban on exchange turnover rebates forced a change: intraday, F&O, currency and commodity trades now carry a ₹5 (or 0.03%, whichever is lower) charge per order, while equity delivery remains completely free. Even after that change, Shoonya's overall cost structure — including a ₹9 DP charge, ₹0 AMC, free API access and free Call & Trade — remains among the lowest of any broker in India.

Shoonya DP Charges
DP (Depository Participant) charges are levied by CDSL/NSDL and the broker whenever shares are debited from your demat account on a sale — separate from brokerage, and not shown on most brokerage calculators.
- Charged only when shares are sold from your demat holdings — intraday trades with no delivery don't attract DP charges.
- Levied once per scrip (ISIN) per day, regardless of how many times or how many shares of that stock you sell that day.
- Not shown in most brokerage calculators since it depends on holdings sold, not on trade value.

Frequently asked questions
What are Shoonya's brokerage charges?
Shoonya offers ₹0 (free) brokerage on equity delivery — this has stayed free even after SEBI's December 2024 ban on exchange turnover rebates ended Shoonya's earlier true-zero-brokerage model. For intraday, F&O futures and currency/commodity futures, brokerage is ₹5 or 0.03% of the order value, whichever is lower. F&O options carry a flat ₹5 per executed order. These are among the lowest F&O charges of any broker in India.
What are Shoonya's DP charges?
Shoonya's DP (Depository Participant) charge is ₹9 + GST, levied once per scrip (ISIN) per day whenever shares are sold and debited from your demat holdings for settlement. It doesn't apply to intraday trades, since no shares are actually delivered into or out of your demat account, and it stays the same regardless of how many shares of that stock you sell that day. At ₹9 + GST, it's among the lowest DP charges of any discount broker in India — most competitors charge ₹13–20 + GST.
Does Shoonya charge anything for using the app?
No. The Shoonya mobile app, the web platform (trade.shoonya.com) and API access (with official Python, NodeJS and .NET SDKs) are all completely free — there's no subscription, platform or maintenance fee for using them. This also includes SensAI, Shoonya's built-in multi-agent AI tool for stock analysis, at no extra cost.
What are Shoonya's account opening charges?
Opening a Shoonya account costs ₹0 — this applies to individual, HUF and NRI accounts alike. There's no separate charge for the demat account, the trading account, or the initial KYC process; you only need a PAN card, Aadhaar for e-KYC, and your bank account details to get started.
What is Shoonya's AMC (Annual Maintenance Charge)?
Shoonya charges ₹0 AMC for life on both the demat and trading account. A ₹499/year AMC was briefly proposed alongside the December 2024 pricing change, but Shoonya fully withdrew it after user backlash, and AMC has remained ₹0 ever since.
How do I open a Shoonya account?
You can open a Shoonya demat and trading account entirely online, usually within a few minutes. The process involves entering your PAN and mobile/email details, completing Aadhaar-based e-KYC, adding your bank account for fund transfers, and e-signing the account opening form — no paperwork or in-person visit is needed.
